Wow! There are so many things you can do with sand! First of all let’s give the credit due to the tactile aspect. Let’s remember how important it is for our kids to get dirty.. the shower always awaits us at the end of the day before pygamas. It’s so important to feel the sand sliding through your fingers and smoosh it and mold it ! I Read somewhere that connections are made in the brain while we are enjoying sensory activities. Looks like we aren’t doing much by just holding some dough in our hand... but we are! as we Moosh the dough we are defining the outlines of our body and feeling where we begin and where we end! The same with covering ourselves in sand as we do sometimes on the beach in the summer. We learn to relax and feel our boundaries in space! So after we have smooshed, mooshed, molded and spread the sand everywhere we can also stamp it! The beautiful shapes that can be made with a simple stamp are addictive and so easy to do. Sitting opposite your child, you could simply hold the stamps in a see through box and wait for your child to find a way to ask you for another stamp. There are so many commmunication possibilities here!!! Enjoy enjoy enjoy!
